Fabric Lined Bookshelves

I must make a confession. I am in love with brown. I am always drawn to it. Almost every piece of furniture I have ever purchased is brown. I love the richness and warmth...yet sometimes I feel like it is consuming me because it is EVERYWHERE in my house. For this latest venture, we decided to paint our bookshelves white...more specifically, "Antique White" by Glidden. I almost had a panic attack thinking that they would not match the rest of the house. Really. I had to tell myself to get over it.

Here is the before. No surprise that I had 4 dark brown pieces of furniture on the back wall around the archway (ok, you can only see 3 here but you get the idea). The wall of brown.

Outline for our new and improved bookshelves.
Shelves constructed.  They took one coat of primer and two coats of paint.
Found this super cute fabric to use as the background.
After a debate on how to actually secure the fabric, we decided to use the ever faithful staple gun. We just stapled the fabric on to the back frame of the shelves.
Christopher even made little cut-outs so we can still have access to our outlets.
And here they are all finished.

I love this. I use this trick of adding fabric to the back of bookshelves all the time. Even with "store bought" bookshelves (aka Ikea cheap furniture) I leave out the back piece and add fabric. I think it gives them personality and helps to tie the room decor together nicely. Love your choice of fabric for this project too!
